Why Accord Coupe?

I’m sure these will be silly questions, but I’m bad with Hondas and thus seeking help.

What does the Accord Coupe compete against? What would you cross shop against it?

If there were a convertible variant, then I could see it working against the old 200 Convertible, upcoming Buick Cascda, the old IS-C, or even the C70. However, it doesn’t seem like anyone is really interested anymore. Especially with Mustang and Camaro having more prestige, style, athletism, and now decent interiors for a reasonable price. In fact, the only 4 adult, fixed roof only, manual availible vehicle I can think of is the Challenger SXT.

I just assumed they kept it due to the lack of a sportscar. However, with the new Civic bigger, it seems like the Civic Coupe would cover that ground and go against other compact 2-doors.

Just curious. Anyone know what percent of sales the coupe is out of total Accord sales?

I like the look of coupes, they’re quite sleek imo. also, the accord V6 is a rocket. 280-ish HP from a J35

I don’t know any figures, but I still see them fairly often on the road. You can a manual V6, dammit! I think they look great, and would consider owning one if I were ever in the market for a new or almost new car... which as we all know I probably never will be.

The Accord coupe competes with the C Class Coupe, 3 series when it was a coupe, 2 series now (4 series is too expensive for that segment), Q40 and probably a few others you didn’t mention. It’s a reliable, spacious and fuel efficient coupe. But you are right with the upgrade to the civic it has to step up.

In my opinion, it doesn’t really have direct competitors besides the Genesis coupe. I feel like people just buy the coupe because they liked it more than the sedan. The accord is a great car, especially with a V6. I spent a lot of time piloting one up to 120k+ and it still pulled strong.

I don’t know about the Challenger having more athleticism than the Accord! Too much of a pig for that, especially at 1000 lb more than the Honda. Bigger on the outside, smaller on the inside.

The Mustang has more style than the Accord? It has the style *of* an Accord!

The Accord coupe doesn;t have any competition :p

Except maybe the Genesis coupe

I don’t know about those, their all RWD luxury vehicles. If it were a TLX coupe, I could see it. The Accord is pretty big too, like 6 series, E-class big when I looked in one.

Well I didn’t mean to include Challenger and the term “athletism” together. True on the Mustang though! Accord Coupe, a class all its own!

It is. It’s funny because the way people talk about the old Maxima sounds like the Accord Coupe for the last decade.

Note:

Challenger SXT doesn't have a manual available. Manual is only available on the V8 challengers.

They are definitely full size but I’m merely comparing the price points. As far as luxury, you could get one loaded with leather, cameras everywhere, heated seats, radar cruise, lane watching etc. all those things that people like in most Lux cars. So not exactly prestige but you get somewhere nice to be for a reasonable price point. Not sure how sporty they really are but the V6 is still going to pull you through even if it’s steering the wheels as it’s doing it.

It use to have competition...now I don’t understand the point of it. On a side note, I lust over a previous gen coupe in dark blue with a V6 and a manual

Also I feel like my posts are coming off as like a big defender of this thing, I'm not though! I wouldn't buy one and definitely agree about the civic aping its sales.

What?! The one time in all of autodom that the manual isn’t on the base engine. I shall write that into my fact book. Thank you!

You have a good point, I have a 335i coupe and a C300 sedan and I could totally see a fully loaded accord competing against them.

They were quite decent cars. although once the CVTs started coming in, they became boring, not as well polished as before.

That said, the enthusiast buyer will prefer the RWD/AWD option. But for someone who doesnt care much it won't be a thought. New C Coupe is something else though.

It doesn’t really have any direct competition. At one time, coupe variants of intermediate car lines were quite common, but they’ve all died off one by one, leaving Honda as the last one standing. The market for non-sporty/non-luxury coupes might be tiny nowadays, having been totally displaced by crossovers, but taking 100% of a tiny market is apparently something that Honda still sees as worthwhile.

GM dropped the Pontiac G6 Coupe in 2010, Toyota dropped the (Camry) Solara in 2008, Chrysler dropped the Dodge Stratus Coupe in ‘05, and Ford dropped the Tempo Coupe way back in 1994.

The Accord Coupe’s last competitor was the Nissan Altima Coupe, which expired in 2013. Since then, its had the segment all to itself.

The Accord, Altima, Fusion, Camry, etc. are midsize sedans and dimensionally are very similar to a Mercedes E class and BMW 5 series.

I’m totally biased because I have one but the 335i is one of the best enthusiast options under $20k. RWD, 6MT, hydraulic steering, twin turbo inline six.. *drools*

I’ve fallen in love with my C300 again. It feels so solid and well built. No rattles or anything, and the interior is a great place to be.

That’s one thing I love about my C. Every single thing feels solid except for the HVAC knobs which could have more heft to it. When I’m in other cars I’m reminded why I like mine so much.

The only issue I have with the car is a small chip on one of the steering wheel buttons. Besides that it's been 100%. I had a little electrical scare, if the car sat out in the rain overnight my some buttons wouldn't work but I figured out it was just one of the drains clogged, allowing water to build up and leak where it shouldn't. Cleaned it up and bam now it's perfect again.

It’s kinda funny. My mom went from an 01 Maxima to an 09 6+6 Accord Coupe, with a few different cars in between. Both are great cars, and I’m keeping my eye out for a low miles GLE.
